The step-by-step guide to hand washing your car

The Step By Step Guide To Hand Washing Your Car

If you use your car daily, you need to remember to devote some time to wash it. After all, the vehicle cannot keep clean on its own, so there is no way around it. Well, you can take it to the car wash, or perhaps use mobile car valeting services. However, it still pays to know a thing or two about hand washing, when there is no other option but to do the task on your own.

All you will need for the task is a shady patch, preferably with a flat surface, such as concrete and a few materials for the job. Now let’s dive into the process in greater detail:

Prepare for the task

Car Washing Advice

There are a few things you need to do to wash your car properly. First, consider the weather. It is a mistake to think that cleaning the car on a sunny day is the best. The sun will dry up any cleaning liquid on the paint and lead to splotches. You will do well to wash it on a cloudy day or move it somewhere shady. Then, gather your cleaning supplies. You will need at least 2 buckets of water, a sponge/brush/wash mitt and a drying towel. Let’s not forget about the car wash solution. Don’t go about the task using dishwashing detergent or something similar. This could lead to paint damage. Employ a specialised product for car washing, if you wish to see the best results. As the final step of preparation, add the car wash product to a bucket of water, following the instructions on the label. Now you are ready to start the actual washing process.

Hose off the car exterior

The first step of the washing process is to hose off the car exterior, to soften the accumulated dirt and lose some of it. Don’t go overboard with a powerful jet of water, because this can rub the grit over the paint and cause some scratches. Be careful around the windows, as any flaws in the rubber may cause water dribbles inside the car.

Wash the wheels Exterior Car Wash

The wheels are the dirtiest part of the car and so should be washed first, to prevent that dirt from splashing around. You can use a skinny brush to loosen the dirt, or, if there is not that much dirt there, use a mitt.

Was the car next

Now it is time to wash the body of the vehicle. Before you begin scrubbing or anything like that, it is a good idea to use a wash mitt soaked in the water/car wash solution. The idea behind using a mitt is so that you don’t push dirt into the car body. Don’t forget to rinse the item once it has collected some dust, or else you will just be transferring impurities from one part of the car to another. Remember to always start from the top of the car and work your way towards lower areas. That way, the cleaning solution will drip down on the dirty lower areas of the vehicle, making it easier to address later.

Rinse the car after washing

Now it is time to give the vehicle that final rinse, to remove any leftover cleaning solution. While you are at it, don’t forget to hose the undercarriage, because grit accumulates there as well. Once you are done, you can detail your car, if you have the tools and expertise for this sort of task.

Now that you know how to wash your car, you should get on with it. Remember, if you ever need any help, you can always rely on Fast Car Mobile Valeting.
